Rosh Hashanah Begins Wednesday September 28, 2011

The Jewish High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah begins Wednesday September 28, 2011 and continues through October 4, 2011.

Some of the observances and traditions during those days include (varies among differing practicing sects):

Wednesday September 28, 2011:   Women and girls light candles to usher in the Jewish New Year.
                                                      Fruit dipped in honey, head of fish, ram, or other kosher animal is eaten.

Thursday September 29, 2011:       Fruit is dipped in honey and eaten.
                                               
Friday September 30, 2011:           Synagouge attendence for the hearing of the shofar.
                                                      Chabbat preparation and cooking.

Saturday October 1, 2011:             Chabbat meal is eaten.

Sunday October 2, 2011:               Fast of Gedaliah for all men and women above the age of bat mitzvah.
                                                      Pregnant and nursing women do not have to participate in the fast.
