As Florida Governor Rick Scott continues to defend his position to require welfare recipients to take a drug test in order to protect the public largess, a much broader question is raised.:
Why not require drug testing of all recipients of Florida taxpayer money such as:
State college students who receive subsidized in-state tuition rates;
Movie production companies (including producers, directors and actors on the set) that receive film tax credits;
Employees and owners of businesses that receive contracts from the State of Florida;
Recipients of energy tax credits; and
Employees and owners of businesses that receive community redevelopment tax breaks?
After all, if the stated public policy is to ensure that taxpayer money does not go to drug use, then it should be applied to everyone who benefits off of Florida’s dime.
