The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting that an earthquake of around Magnitude 5.6 has hit near the Oklahoma City Area in Oklahoma within the last two hours (11:53 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time) on Saturday November 5, 2011.

The epicenter was twenty-one miles north-northeast from Shawnee, Oklahoma, thirty-nine miles south-southeast of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and 44 miles east-northeast of Oklahoma City, and only 3.1 miles deep.

No, this seismic activity is not related to the New Madrid Fault Seismic Zone which runs along the Mississippi River near where Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, and Arkansas border each other.
