ORLANDO, Florida — The Florida Highway Patrol says that 43-year-old Jennifer Toth of San Jose, California was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima southbound on State Road 535 in the center lane when a 22-year-old woman was walking in the cross walk across S.R. 535 from west to east. The woman has not been identified pending notification of next-of-kin.
According to witnesses, the driver of an Altima ran a red light and the front of the car struck the young woman at 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday April 17, 2012. The driver of the Altima then fled the scene. The pedestrian was transported to Dr. Phillips where she later died as the result of her injuries.
The following morning, FHP says that Toth contacted them to request a crash report for a crash she had, possibly involving an animal. After FHP Troopers made contact with Toth at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Toth told Troopers that her car was located behind a business of of Vineland Road. Sometime after parking the Altima, she said she took a cab back to her hotel.
Troopers located the vehicle which matched the description of the car that had fled the scene and had damage consistent with striking a pedestrian in a crash. Troopers arrested Toth and charged her for leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
Toth was booked into the Orange County jail. Additional charges are pending.
