MELBOURNE, Florida — On Monday April 16, 2012, at approximately 3:15 A.M., Melbourne police officers made citizens’ contact with two subjects on Southland Avenue near Tuskegee Street in Melbourne, Florida. One of the subjects, identified as Timothy L. Calloway, was checked for warrants and it was discovered he was wanted for Fleeing/Attempting to Elude.
After placing Calloway in handcuffs, an officer performed a search of his person and attempted to place him in the rear of the patrol car. At this point, Calloway unexpectedly kicked the officer in the knee and broke away. Calloway, still handcuffed, ran northbound to the 900 block of Coleman Street with officers in foot pursuit. Calloway was able to elude the officers and was last seen in this area.
A large-scale search ensued with the assistance the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Star helicopter and canine units. However, law enforcement was unable to locate Calloway. The officer that was kicked was injured as a result of this incident. Calloway is now wanted for Escape, Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting an Officer With Violence, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Calloway is 29-years-old and was last seen wearing a black shirt, black short with a beard. He is 5’10” and approximately 165 pounds. Police say he may still be wearing handcuffs.
