OSTEEN, Florida — The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery Monday night of a body in a wooded area in the southern part of Volusia County. The body was reported to the Sheriff’s Office at 7:45 p.m. by an Osteen resident who said her boyfriend was riding his motorcycle around the area when he made the discovery. He initially thought there was a dead animal in the area, but when he got a closer look, he discovered that it was a man’s body.
The Sheriff’s Office’s Major Case Unit is investigating. The victim’s identity and the cause of death were unable to be immediately determined at the scene. Investigators hope an autopsy by the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office will give them some of those answers.
The body was found about 40 feet off of the roadway in Osteen, south of Rudman Road and east of Oak View Farms Road. The location is just west of a 1,400 public preserve along the St Johns River valley.
