PALM BAY, Florida – Palm Bay Police Detectives with the Major Case Unit are investigating the drowning of a one-year-old baby boy named Jacob Whitney.
Just after 3 p.m. today, Palm Bay police and firefighters responded to 265 Nemo Circle NW after receiving reports of an infant found in a backyard swimming pool.
When rescuers arrived, the infant was not breathing and unresponsive.
Palm Bay police say that attempts to revive the baby were not successful and he was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Palm Bay Police detectives conducted interviews with those present in the home and learned that the mother was home alone with her two children, a three-year-old boy and the one-year-old victim.
The great-grandparents returned home and found the mother in a back room of the home and the three-year-old wandering about. They were unable to locate the infant and immediately began searching for him.
The mother found the boy in the pool and jumped in to get him when police say that he was not breathing.
The investigation is continuing as detectives determine the circumstances that caused the boy to fall into the pool.

Was there a baby guard fence (which ie required by Florida Law 2nd degree Misd.)?
No one deserves this to happen to them, that lil boy was precious, n his mother loved him, he was just here, full of life n happy, the family needs support right now n nothing else.
omg I went to school with the mother, we are friends I can't believe this.
The fact is pools are more deadly than a loaded gun in the house...you cannot take your eyes off a child for a minute if you have a pool...why was she laying around in a back room, why her kid was drowning..and why was the 3 year old just wandering around...I think this mother needs help, some intervention...
Where in the article did it say she was lying around in the back room maybe she just went to grab something. You shouldn't just assume.
