MERRITT ISLAND, Florida –  The Florida Highway Patrol is reporting that the northbound lanes on State Road 3 (2500 Block of North Courtney Parkway) in Merritt Island are closed due to a fatal traffic accident near the intersection of Venetian Way while FHP conducts its investigation.

Only one southbound lane on State Road 3 is open in that area.

Northbound motorists can use North Banana River Drive as an alternate route to reach State Road 528.

UPDATE: State Road 3 has reopened.
