Westbound State Road 528 Re-Opened

ORANGE COUNTY, Florida – The Florida Highway Patrol is reporting that the westbound lanes of State Road 528 (also known as the Beachline) are closed due to a fatal accident.

The accident occurred near mile marker 29 west of the Brevard County / Orange County line and the intersection of State Road 520 at 2:28 a.m. Tuesday.

FHP is advising motorists to use State Road 520 as an alternate route to State Road 528 when traveling westbound from Brevard County to Orlando, Florida.

UPDATE #1: S.R. 528 has been re-opened.

UPDATE #2: FHP says that a 2004 Hyundai Sonata was traveling westbound in the inside lane of State Road 528. The Sonata traveled onto the inside grassy shoulder. The driver then over-corrected – causing the Sonata to travel across both westbound lanes.

The Sonata continued onto the outside grassy shoulder where the left midsection of the vehicle struck a tree.

The driver suffered fatal injuries on the scene.

FHP has not released the driver’s identity pending next-of-kin notification.
