MELBOURNE, Florida — The Melbourne Police Department announced that Matthew James Sharp was officially charged today with the First Degree Murder of 35-year-old Leah Yoresh who was found murdered in her home on 1433 Albert Drive in Melbourne, Florida on January 11, 2012.
22-year-old Sharp was originally arrested on January 17th for Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle after he and two other men were allegedly spotted driving Yoresh’s 2012 Hyundai Accent near a mobile home park by the intersection of Eau Gallie Boulevard and I-95 in north Melbourne.
During the course of the murder investigation, Melbourne police say that crucial evidence was uncovered that connected Sharp to the homicide. This evidence included bloody shoe prints at the murder scene that police say matched the shoes worn by Sharp.
Additionally, Crime Scene Technicians found blood on Sharp’s shoes. This blood was sent off for DNA testing and the results allegedly matched the victim’s DNA. Also, between the date of the murder and the day he was located in the stolen vehicle, Sharp allegedly attempted to use Yoresh’s credit cards at different stores to purchase gas, food, video games and a TV.
The manner in which Leah Yoresh’s died is not being released at this time as it is part of the ongoing investigation.
