U.S. Air Force T-38 Crash In Texas

WICHITA FALLS, Texas — A T-38 Talon crashed at approximately 6:48 am on Friday just south of Sheppard Air Force Base and east of Wichita Falls, Texas, U.S. Air Force officials reported.  An investigation into the accident is underway.

The T-38 carried two people on board, a German student pilot and instructor pilot.  Both pilots ejected safely and one was taken to a hospital.

The Northrop T-38 Talons are mainly used by the USAF as jet trainers.  They are more famously known as the chase plane for NASA’s space shuttles and also for being flown by Gemini and Apollo astronauts.  Three Gemini astronauts were killed in two separate T-38 crashes in 1966 and 1967.  NASA still maintains a T-38 fleet for training use by astronauts.
