UPDATE: BCFR is reporting that the brush fire has been contained after the Florida Forestry Service established plow lines around the blaze. BCFR crews will monitor the fire. The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.
VIERA, Florida — Crews from Brevard County Fire Rescue and Florida Forestry Service are fighting a 15 to 20-acre brush fire between the Auburn Lakes and Herron’s Landing subdivisions off Wexford Drive in in Viera, Florida.
The fire came within a few hundred feet of homes before wind pushed the fire back towards previous burn lines that are helping to stall the brush fire.
Crews continue to monitor weather conditions that could help or worsen the blaze. According to the National Weather Service, sustained winds of 15 to 20 m.p.h. with higher gusts are expected as a cold front pushes through Central Florida this afternoon.
Isolated and damaging wind gusts of up to 65 m.p.h. are also possible as storms pass through East Central Florida south of Orlando.
