Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower May 5, 2014

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida — The Eta Aquarids meteor shower occurs during the nights and predawn mornings from May 4th-6th, 2014.  The meteor shower peaks on the night of May 5 into the morning of May 6.

The 2014 Eta Aquarids meteor shower will not be out-shined by the Moon because the Moon sets before the predawn hours in the United States.  So the only viewing factor is local cloud cover and artificial lights.

Eta Aquarids are pieces of debris from Halley’s Comet Thatcher and will appear to come from a point in the constellation Aquarius.

While not as intense or brilliant as other meteor showers during 2014, the Eta Aquarids are capable of producing about 30 meteors per hour in the Northern Hemisphere.
