MIAMI, Florida – As of 11 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Monday, August 22, 2015, NOAA’s National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida has issued a public advisory due to the presence of Tropical Storm Gaston that is predicted to become Hurricane Gaston by Wednesday.
Tropical Storm Gaston Projected Path
Gaston is located about 450 miles west-southwest of the southernmost Cabo Verde Islands and is moving to the west-northwest at 18 mph (30 km/h). This general motion with a slight decrease in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days.
Tropical Storm Gaston Strength
Tropical Storm Gaston has maximum sustained winds near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is expected, and Gaston is forecast to become a hurricane Tuesday night or Wednesday.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward from the center of the tropical cyclone up to 60 miles (95 km).
