UPDATE: The precautionary boil water notice issued on Oct. 5 is rescinded for all Melbourne water customers.

MELBOURNE, Florida – The City of Melbourne has issued a precautionary boil water notice for the following areas:

Indialantic

Indian Harbour Beach

Melbourne

Melbourne Beach

Melbourne Village

Palm Shores

Satellite Beach

West Melbourne

Unincorporated Brevard South of Pineda Causeway (Customers who live in unincorporated Brevard County located south of Pineda Causeway and receive a water bill from the City of Melbourne. Suntree and Viera are served by the City of Cocoa water system – not Melbourne.)

The boil water notice remains in effect as of Friday, October, 6, 2017. This precautionary boil water notice is expected to remain in effect until the required bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink.  Residents will be provided with a notification at that time.

Officials say that the water pressure in the distribution system dropped below the minimum of 20 psi allowed by state regulations. The drop in pressure was caused by a transmission main break at the water production facilities.

Due to the drop in water pressure, as a precaution, the City of Melbourne is advising that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes, be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.

Despite the boil water notice, Brevard Public Schools’ operations continue as normal. According to BPS, parents are advised to not check-out students.

The affected schools have been supplied with clean water for drinking and cooking and restrooms remain open. Hand sanitizer has also been distributed throughout the affected schools.
