WEST MELBOURNE, Florida – A suspect shot at a West Melbourne police officer during a traffic stop on Sylvan Drive on Monday night.

The shots were fired around 9:45 p.m. and shell casings were later located. Although the suspect’s vehicle had bullet holes, the police officer did not return fire.

The suspected shooter fled the scene and police began to search nearby neighborhoods.

Patrol units set up a perimeter near South Wickham Road and South Drive while the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office STAR helicopter assisted in the search.

So far, the suspect has not been located.
