MIAMI, Florida – NOAA’s National Hurricane Center issued a Public Advisory at 5 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Saturday, July 25, 2020, due to the presence of Tropical Storm Hanna that is tracking towards Texas.
Tropical Storm Hanna is located 115 miles east-southeast of Corpus Christie, Texas, and is moving to the west at 9 mph (15 km/h).
NHC forecasters say that a gradual turn toward the west-southwest is expected by tonight and that motion should continue through Sunday.
On the NHC forecast track, the storm center should make landfall along the Texas coast within the warning area this afternoon or early evening.
Spaghetti models are in good agreement that the tropical cyclone will continue on a westerly track followed by a turn to the west-southwest.
The new NHC forecast track has been adjusted just a bit to the south of the previous forecast. This is just north of the dynamical model consensus and just south of the latest ECMWF track.
Tropical Storm Hanna has maximum sustained winds of near 70 mph (110 km/h), with higher gusts.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km) from the center of the tropical cyclone.
Additional strengthening is forecast, and Hanna is expected to become a hurricane today before the cyclone makes landfall. Rapid weakening is expected after Hanna moves inland.
A Hurricane Warning has been issued from Port Mansfield northward to Mesquite Bay, Texas.
A Hurricane Warning means that hurricane conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area, in this case within the next 24 hours. Preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion.
A Storm Surge Warning has been issued from Port Mansfield to Sargent, Texas.
A Storm Surge Warning means there is a danger of life-threatening inundation, from rising water moving inland from the coastline, during the next 24 hours in the indicated locations. This is a life-threatening situation. Persons located within these areas should take all necessary actions to protect life and property from rising water and the potential for other dangerous conditions. Promptly follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from Barra el Mezquital, Mexico to Port Mansfield, Texas; and from Mesquite Bay to High Island, Texas.
A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area, in this case within the next 24 hours.
Interests elsewhere along the Texas, Louisiana, and northeastern Mexico coasts should monitor the progress of Hanna.
