COCOA BEACH, Florida – The National Weather Service in Melbourne, Florida has extended a Coastal Flood Warning for Brevard and Volusia counties that will remain in effect until 4 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Wednesday, September 23, 2020.

A High Surf Advisory also remains in effect until 8 p.m. E.D.T. on Thursday, September 24, 2020.

Coastal flooding is occurring or imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert for rising water, and take appropriate action to protect life and property.

If travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through the water of unknown depth.

High surf will affect the beaches in the advisory area, producing localized beach erosion and dangerous swimming conditions.

Swimmers should remain out of the water due to large breaking waves and dangerous surf conditions.

The main impacts of any coastal flooding or beach erosion will be greatest during the times of the high tide.

The next high tide cycles are tonight around 1:00 A.M. and Wednesday between 1:30 P.M. and 2:00 P.M.

Shoreline and dune erosion will also occur.

Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion with breaking waves 6 to 9 feet in height.

Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
