MIAMI, Florida – NOAA’s National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida issued a Tropical Weather Outlook at 2 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Sunday, October 4, 2020, that indicates two other systems may form into tropical cyclones within the next 5 days in addition to Tropical Storm Gamma and Invest 92L (red “X”).

The first system is a tropical wave located about midway between the coast of Africa and the Lesser Antilles (marked with a yellow “X” closest to South America).

NHC forecasters say that some slow development of this system is possible during the next couple of days while it moves west-northwestward or northwestward at 10 to 15 mph.

Any significant development is not expected beyond that time due to the system moving into a region of strong upper-level winds.

This system has a 20% chance of tropical cyclone formation within the next 5 days and a 20% chance within the next 48 hours.

The second system is an area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the central Atlantic more than 1000 miles east-southeast of Bermuda is associated with a surface trough of low pressure (marked with a yellow “X” closest to Bermuda).

NHC forecasters say that some development is possible during the next couple of days before it encounters strong upper-level winds.

This system has a 10% chance of tropical cyclone formation within the next 5 days and a 10% chance within the next 48 hours.

If either of these systems become a tropical storm or hurricane, the next name on the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Greek Alphabet Names List is Delta.

September 10 was the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season where tropical cyclone activity significantly increases. But hurricane season still remains at an increased level of activity through the first half of October, according to NOAA and the National Weather Service’s historical data.

NOAA and Colorado State University forecast an “extremely active” 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season which runs from June 1 through November 30.
