NOAA: Tropical Cyclone May Form Off Florida

MIAMI, Florida – NOAA’s National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, issued a Tropical Weather Outlook at 8 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Friday, October 23, 2020, that indicates that another system may form into a tropical cyclone off the coast of Florida within the next 5 days while Hurricane Epsilon approaches Bermuda.

A broad area of low pressure located near Grand Cayman Island is producing a large area of showers and thunderstorms mainly east and south of the center (marked with an orange “X”).

NHC forecasters say that this system has become much better organized since yesterday, and a tropical depression could form during the next couple of days while the low moves slowly toward the northwest.

This system is now anticipated to move near western Cuba this weekend and move slowly across the southeastern Gulf of Mexico by early next week.

Regardless of development, locally heavy rainfall will be possible over portions of the Cayman Islands, Cuba, southern Florida and the Keys, and the northwestern Bahamas through the weekend.

This system has a 60% chance of tropical cyclone formation within the next 5 days and a 50% chance within the next 48 hours.

If this system becomes a tropical storm, the next name on the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Greek Alphabet Names List is Zeta.
